The young Global Citizens’ summit was organized by the British Council at the SAI International School in Bhubhaneshwar. This summit was attended by the students Anitya Ajmani, Kunal Venkat, Divya Tiwary and a Teacher Mr. K. Ashok Kumar of the D. B. M. S. English School. It was held from 26th of January to 29th of January, 2012.

There were twelve sessions of workshops which were organized. Out of these twelve workshops we attended eight workshops which are as follows:

 

  1. 100 words: The facilitators of this workshop were Mr. John Brown and Ms. Natasha Betteridge. This workshop was organized to improve our creative skills so that we could present ourselves to the audience and limit our writing skills to a certain number of words.
  2. BBC world Class : The facilitator of this workshop was Mr. Paul Harris. This workshop was organized to teach us how to present our work and computer presentations to people in foreign countries.
  3. Social Action Project - 2 : The facilitator of this workshop was Mrs. Suman Chawla. This workshop was organized to discuss certain global social issues and spread awareness about it and also discuss about the alternatives to resolve such social threats.
  4. Big Dance : The facilitator of this workshop was Ms. Katie Pearson. This workshop was to instill a passion for dance among the participants.
  5. Royal Shakespeare Company - The facilitator of this workshop was Ms. Hannah Young.
    This workshop was organized to promote the works of Shakespeare and also teach the participants to perform a Shakespeare play.
  6. Youth Leadership - The facilitator of this workshop was Mrs. Alison Willmot. This workshop was organized to instill leadership qualities in the participants so that they could turn out global leaders.
  7. Communication and Presentation skills. The facilitator of this workshop was Mr. Alan Machenzie. This workshop was organized to improve the presentation skills and instill all the good qualities of a spokesman.
  8. Forum Theatre - The facilitator of this workshop was Mr. Sonjay Ganguly. This workshop was organized to teach about the acting skills and how to interact with the spectators.

  3. Social Action Project - I
  4. Social Action Project - III

There were one hundred fifteen schools from all over India and more than four hundred participants comprising three students and a teacher from each school. We are highly obliged to the British Council and the Sai International School for their hospitality.

This was an enlightening and memorable experience. All our experiences shall be shared with our school students in the new academic session (2012-13) by forming a club at our school i.e. “DBMS -Young Global Citizens Club”.
