DBMS English SchoolWay back in 1940s a group of like minded women came together with a desire to achieve the impossible and with an unrelenting zeal to make their dream, a reality. Their congregation gave birth to Dakshina Bharata Mahila Samaj (DBMS) in August 1944.

In the initial years, classes were conducted in a small house at the BH Area in Kadma. Later, the school expanded and thus came up the DBMS Hindi Medium Girls' High School in 1961. With every passing day the school started adding a new feather to its cap and every wish culminated into a reality.

This was later followed by the opening of the DBMS English School in 1965. The very next year, the school got affilated to the ICSE council, New Delhi. DBMS was the first school to start the Plus Two section.

The Founder

A far-sighted visionary, an enthusiastic leader and a tenacious worker, Bhanumathi Neelakantan is the spirit behind the DBMS School. This school is the realisation of her dreams that enabled her to set up exemplary institutions in the steel city.

The Bhanumathi Neelakantan Awards Nite, which is held every year to recognise the social service rendered by Neelakantan, gives financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to every deserving woman candidate who applies for help. DBMS has completed 59 years of dedicated service to the society of Jamshedpur.

With its motto of "Vasudha Yeva Kuttumbakam", the school has served many young people in the city and will also continue to achieve the impossible and spread the message of peace and togetherness.

The Syllabus

Fact SheetDBMS today is one of the most well known schools not only in Jamshedpur, but, has also been successful in carving a niche for itself on the country's academic map. The school offers a 10-year ICSE course followed by a two-year ISC course. The syllabus in the ICSE course include English, Hindi, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history & civics, geography, accountancy, economics, computer science, moral science, SUPW and physical education.

In the middle-school level, students have to choose one of the following languages as the third language. The options are Sanskrit, Tamil, Bengali or Gurumukhi. The third language is assessed for four years from Class IV to VII. Students have an option to choose any of the following language as part of their regular curriculum. At the primary level, environmental studies is offered to the students as an important part of the curriculum.

Techno savvy

With changing times, the school has taken the required steps. Computer science has been introduced as an important part of the curriculum for the students of Class I to VIII. The school has two well-equipped computer laboratory with 55 computers to conduct these classes.

Vital stats

DBMS with around 3,000 students, has three well-equipped library with over 26,000 books adorning its shelves. The junior library is for students from KG to Class VI, the central library for the high school students while for the Plus Two students there is a separate library. Well-equipped science laboratories have been provided for physics, chemistry and biology through practical sessions for students. The school also has a mathematics laboratory. This lab provides all the equipment for teaching maths through practical methods. There is well organised book store in the school premises where the students get all their books. The school also offers a xerox machine for everybody's convenience.

A state-of-the-art gymnasium and yoga, aerobics and karate and regular games periods form an important part of the daily schedule. The school premises also has a Saraswati temple, a canteen and a bakery.

Clubs

DBMS has an array of activity- clubs and students take part in the club programmes. The Interact Club, Science Club, Magazine Club, G. K. Club, Adventure Club, Interact Club, Jyoti Club, Environment Club, Entertainment Club and Debate Club classes for Scouts, Cubs and Bulbuls are held every Saturday.

Sports

All team games like basketball, football, volleyball, cricket, handball and kho kho are played from the primary level and expert coaching is provided has also been made available to the students.
